29 August 2020: Windy

We found ourselves caught in the midst of a thrilling staring contest as we stumbled upon Windy and Baldy, their gazes locked onto a hillside where four lions returned the intense scrutiny. While adult giraffe are not typically targeted by lions, it was wise for Windy and Baldy to remain vigilant.

With over 22 years of life experience, Windy seemed unfazed by the encounter, though she did seek temporary refuge behind our vehicle. After what felt like an eternity, both giraffe eventually decided to continue their journey. We’re relieved to share that a few days later, we spotted them again, perfectly healthy and thriving. Just another exhilarating adventure in the vast landscapes of northwest Namibia!

Hi Katie, we can only give updates when we have seen a giraffe. Unfortunately, there is no guaranty as Windy lives in a huge desert area – over 30,000 sqkm without fences. We will sure report back when we see her!

Did I just adopt a giraffe that has not been seen or photographed since August 2020. Is this a scam?

Hi Steve, our giraffe adoptees live in a vast desert area (more than 30,000 sqkm) and there is no guaranty that we see them regularly. You will see that we spot some of the other animals regularly, so suspecting a scam is a little unusual. We will certainly report when we spot Windy but unfortunately, you might also want to keep in mind that these giraffe live in the wild …
