19 August 2020: Kaoko

Kaoko, discovered a dry section of the Hoarusib River where she could relish in the company of both delicious Leadwood trees and her fellow giraffe. It was a joy to witness her mingling with several different groups of giraffe, especially bonding with other females and their adorable young calves. These social creatures often practice a unique parenting strategy called “creching,” where they entrust their calves to other females or subadults, providing them with a safe “daycare” while they take a break for foraging or enjoy some well-deserved mommy time.
