Most importantly, he is ok!
What a shock when we spotted Coffee Bean recently in the dry Hoanib Riverbed – in the company of a male lion!
After stalking Coffee Bean for a while, he went for the attack. And while he initially got a good hold of Coffee Bean’s tail, the brave giraffe managed to fight him of. What a hero! We were cheering for him all the way of course.
In recent years, lion have returned to the wilderness of Northwestern Namibia. It is a great indicator for the conservation success of the Namibian Community-Based Natural Resource Management Program, but it may just be bad news for some of the other animals living in the area. But this is nature … cruel at times.
Let’s hope that this lion has realised that giraffe might just be too big a target for him.
And just to assure all of you proud adoptive parents, check out the image below: Coffee Bean is recovering in the shade from his ordeal as we found him a few hours later. You definitely adopted a very resilient giraffe. What a guy!
Way to go Coffee Bean! That lion picked the wrong raffie to pick a fight with!!
Absolutely! What a guy! So happy this encounter ended well!
That’s my boy! I would adopt him over and over again.
You definitely chose a winner!
Eye of the Tiger, keep rocking, Coffee Bean!
